Recognize Yourself?

Calder Street Secondary School c1950

Calder Street c1950

Hi Bill

My name is Hugh Reid. I have attached a photo of a class at Calder Street early 1950’s. We left to go to New Zealand  late February 1953 on the Captain Hobson from Glasgow arrived in New Zealand Easter 1953.

I have been back to Blantyre about five times visiting relatives their names are Pate and Greenhorn.

In the photo I am in the front row on the right and I have attached another photo of me August 1950.

I would like to hear from any people who would know me.

My wife and I are in a retirement village in Auckland NZ and I have a son in Auckland and a daughter in Christchurch and they have been to Blantyre a few times.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Recognize Anyone? Tell Bill

The people I recognise are; the teacher on the left with the glasses is Mr Wattie who taught Maths and RE. 4th boy on back row from the left is John Borland. I am on the right on the back row (James Graham), next to me is John Bell and next to him is Walter Wardlow.

I am fairly sure I recognize and remember Hugh Reid who sent you the photo. If he is the person I am thinking of he lived in Glasgow Road on the opposite side of the Road from what is now the Parkville but a little to the Glasgow side of that.

Best wishes

James Graham
