Glasgow Road between Blantyre Community Centre and the West End was still farmland up till the 50s.

This farmland belonged to the Russell family who farmed Wheatlandhead Farm.

Bill, I just thought that I’d update you on the photo of the horses ploughing the field that you have on your website, I once said that I thought it was the bloke who worked at the farm but on studying it again, it’s a school boy ploughing the field, it looks so like my dad’s cousin Robert Ewing McIntosh who was the son of my grandfather’s sister Elizabeth Ewing Russell and her husband William Stevenson McIntosh, I just thought you’d like to update your webpage. The age of the boy fits.
