Mary McKendrick

Hi Bill,

Sorry for late reply – bit caught up this week,

The lady on the left is Mary McKendrick (looks like she is knitting and possibly Mary's sister, Catherine Connell who is peeling a potato). Taken around 1910.Mary McKendrick in the photo on the left is my husbands great grandmother born in 1862. I have not proven definitely but believe the lady next door to her is her sister, according to census was next door  – her maiden name being Connelly – if correct I believe the lady on the right is Catherine Connelly.  Mary married in 1887 to Michael McKendrick Senior.

Their son ‘our Michael’ emigrated to Australia in 1922 with his wife Annie Seigel.
We are very lucky to have these photos – obviously sent from Scotland over the years to keep in touch with family.
There is a family of McKendricks here now of course and we have been lucky enough to make contact with other McKendrick families still in Scotland /Uk over the past years – loving technology!!

love your site – look forward to the new launch.

Many thanks
Nikki McKendrick

The photo was taken at the back of No: 3 and No: 4 Central Building on Glasgow Road. The lady on the left is Mary McKendrick (looks like she is knitting and possibly Mary’s sister, Catherine Connelly who is peeling a potato). Taken around 1910.

Central Building, was the building after Harper’s Garage at Craig Street, opposite Fallon’s Bar, going West, it had Co-op chemist, Ladies Hairdressers, Dr Stewart and Dr Gordons Surgery, Ness’s Primary School and then Victoria Street.
