Stonefield Public Park
Aerial Photographs of Blantyre 1950
This is Blantyre Engineering in Forrest Street, owned by James Kelly of Glasgow Celtic F.C. fame, one of the largest employers outside of mining in its day.
Below, next to the railway line is William Somerville, Oil Refinery.
On the left is Castle Park, home of Blantyre Victoria F.C.
The next road up is John Street with Aitkenhead’s Slaughterhouse and McPhee’s Piggery. Above John Street is Stonefield Public Park and the paddling pool and boating pond.
Left of the paddling pool is the entrance off Glasgow Road and to the top is the entrance from Station Road.
