At the bottom of Forrest Street next to the railway line, we have William Sommerville Oil Refinery. Known locally as the Oil Works. Men on their way to work at Blantyre Engineering at the bottom. Somerville Oil Works

 William Sommerville Oil Refinery Entrance at the bottom of Forrest Street. Here you can see the entrance to William Sommerville Oil Refinery at the bottom of Forrest Street, next to the railway line. Oil drums stacked on the left.
From William Sommerville Oil works you hit a very rough man made path leading from Forrest Street and going over to the Village Railway Station ‘A Shortcut’. This was a great saving for the people who lived furthest east in Blantyre and who had to catch a train for whatever reason. William Sommerville Oil Refinery Entrance at the bottom of Forrest Street, next to the railway line.
