Blantyre Miners’ Welfare Indoor Bowling Club were honoured as the Scottish Indoor Gents’ League Champions, while Willie McQueen became the Hall of Fame’s first posthumous inductee at the Scottish Indoor Bowling Awards night in Glasgow last weekend.

On the eve of a new indoor season the awards, hosted by Glasgow Indoor Bowling Club, were both recognition and celebration of the many outstanding bowlers and performances in Scotland over the past season.

Blantyre claimed the title at Falkirk after having an almost perfect record in their league programme.

Always strong at home, Blantyre this year based their win on some strong away performances, and beating Falkirk on their own carpet was an exceptional performance to win the title.

Stuart Anderson collected the award, which was sponsored by Jack High Insurance, and said: “It’s great for Blantyre Miners’ Welfare Club to win the Premier League, especially for me in the first year with the club.

“There were big expectations at the club but the 16 boys did very well.”

Dalserf bowler Willie McQueen was one of Scotland’s top indoor skips and a stalwart of county bowling.
