This is just me, as a baby on the path at the side of 104 Victoria Street. Our house was right next to the railway bridge, and behind our garden was “The Plots” – a large area which had been allotments at one time. The railway bridge is in the background of this picture, at that time, coal wagons still went along the line every day. |

My best friend Betty Simpson in the garden in Victoria Street. What’s interesting is the miners in the street, on their way to work at Dixon’s pit. Changed days, eh? Betty’s wearing one skate – I was wearing the other. Modern kids would think we were so uncool. |

First Bowl of the Season
My grandpa (third from left, and looking somewhat older than in the previous pics) was the Club President that year and since he had no wife to open the green, my mother (his daughter, Jean Weaver, nee Scott) did it. She’s the one second from left, and was presented with a silver bowl in a stand for throwing the first bowl of the season. |
