Somerville’s Oil Refinery
Aerial Photographs of Blantyre 1950
At the bottom of Forrest Street is William Somerville’s Oil Refinery, known locally as the Oil Works. To the north of the oil works was the L.M.S.R. Railway lines. This was the main railway line for carrying the coal into Glasgow from the surrounding coal mines. |
A view of Somerville’s Yard, with oil drums. The L.M.S.R. Railway line was to the right of this photo. |
