Barnhill at top of Pech Brae

This photo was taken over the stone wall bounding the Peth Brae, looking down Bardykes road, and showing right to left, Barnhill Tavern, (now Hoolets), the white gable of Miss Agnes (Aggie) Bains house, which may have been called Sauch Cottage, and which later on, had a bit of the gable removed to widen the road, and across the road was the thatched cottage, occupied by Jock Forrest, the brother of my great grandfather, Andrew Forrest, who was born at The Deans, Kirkhill, Cambuslang, 4.12.1886, and who died at Hairmyres, 16.07.1967. Note that driving on the left was not mandatory in those days.

Miss Agnes (Aggie) Bains house.

Barnhill Tavern, 1745 (now Hoolets), the white gable of Miss Agnes (Aggie) Bain’s house, which may have been called Sauch Cottage, and which later on, had a bit of the gable removed to widen the road.

All photos and comments in this Album supplied by May Forrest and her son George Park from Arbroath.
