Auchinraith Primary 1940

Hi Bill,

My mother’s family are from Blantyre. Their name was MacLachlan and they owned a general store in Craig Street, next to Auchinraith Primary. My Grandfather was John MacLachlan (kids called him Johnnie).

My mum went to Auchinraith Primary from about 1936 to around 1942. She thinks the picture is from 1940.

Some comments on the picture:

Headmaster (Back left is Mr McDonald, the boy next to him in the back row is James Little (Father ran the bakery in Main street (Little’s).

Front row: 2nd from right is Amy Johnston, 3rd from right is my Mum, Christina MacLachlan.

My mum later went on to become a primary teacher in David Livingstone Primary School (She has a lot of pictures,… I will send these on)

Cheers

Dave Selkirk
